Our Core Values
Last week we outlined our Mission here at Hill Point Church: Follow Jesus,
Know Jesus, and Love Jesus. This mission
clarifies our purpose, activates our process, aligns our efforts and focuses our
direction. It is simple in its
description, yet profound in its depth.
Along with our Mission, we must also identify some basic Core Values. These core values are fundamental principles
that we cannot compromise and we must not ignore. They are non-negotiable boundary-markers that
keep us “in play”; key foundational beliefs and principles that undergird the
church.
Core Values are meant to govern our Mission, and not the other way
around. In fact, it has been observed
that one of the signs of dying organizations is elevating mission over core
values - that is, desperately attempting to resuscitate and reactivate the
mission at the expense of compromising or neglecting fundamental principles. The church can never afford to “justify the
means” in order to “jump-start” its stated mission.
Core values must be remembered repeatedly and articulated often. Like precious keepsakes displayed in a
special place, they need to be taken out, examined and handled often. While there certainly are more core values
that could qualify, here are some that we emphasize with regularity:
Kingdom first
Loving God and loving people
Hearing and obeying God's Word is essential for true success.
Spiritual growth is inspired by grace.
God's plan for reaching people far from Him has always been to have a people near Him.
Without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we can accomplish nothing.
Prayer is a foundational work of the people of God.
Achieving God's purposes involves taking faith-filled risks.
In Jesus our
King,
Pastor Scott
