Our Vision
Having identified our Mission and our Core Values here at Hill Point, we need
to articulate our Vision. Succinctly stated, our vision is "People Knowing God's Call and Living It." This vision is what we want to see or, more
accurately, what we believe is God's preferred picture for the life and
ministry of Hill Point Church.
Just to distinguish, our Vision is what we see and our Mission is what we do,
so that by God's grace the vision can become a reality. Thus, our Mission - To follow Jesus, know
Jesus, and love Jesus - is the means by which we achieve our Vision - People
knowing God's call and living it.
The importance of vision cannot be overstated. Its value lies in reminding us on a regular
basis why we are here and where we are headed.
The Bible tells us, "Where there
is no vision, the people are unrestrained" (Proverbs 29:18). The word "unrestrained" here can be imagined
like going off on a space-walk without being tethered to the
space-station. Without a tether, people
would just float off into space having no control over their bearing or
movement. Where there is no vision to
tether us to our purpose, people wander off without any sense of direction,
discipline or destiny.
But that's not all. The potential
damage of having no vision can also be lethal.
Not only is there a lack of direction and restraint, there also can be the
very real danger of eventual destruction.
In the space-walk analogy, having no tether means no sustained life
support. And no life support means,
well, no life! No vision implies a lack
of knowledge and understanding, and Hosea writes "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6).
As created beings, we were not designed to live or function independently
of our Creator. Indeed He is our life
support, our source, our portion. Apart
from Him, we do not exist. We are taught
in scripture that "man does not live by
bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the
LORD." (Deut. 8:3) Therefore our
survival hinges upon vision that is revealed from the very mouth of God. This is the nature of vision. We are not talking about the kind of visions that
are merely human-inspired dreams, ideas or ambitions which occurs in the
natural realm. The kind of vision we are
talking about is God-originated, God-initiated, God-communicated and God-orchestrated.
Therefore, our vision will only become a reality as we become a people immersed
in what God is saying. "People knowing God's call and living it"
necessarily requires people deeply-rooted in God's Word, intimately familiar
with the voice of their Shepherd, and inseparably connected and walking with
Jesus - who Himself is the Living Word.
In Jesus our
King,
